Centralia Police are waiting for lab results to find out more about a six-year-old girl found unresponsive at a Centralia home Friday afternoon.

Police were greeted by the mother outside the home in the 400 block of Leafland, very upset about her daughter, who was inside, lying on the couch.  She indicated she was trying to move out of the house because of the amount of fentanyl and heroin used inside.

The girl had shallow breathing but was unresponsive when approached by police.   Centralia Fire and Lifestar Ambulance arrived at about the same time.   The fire department provided oxygen while the Lifestar crew administered NARCAN, which brought the girl back around.   She was initially taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and then later transferred to St. Louis.

While Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says the impact of the NARCAN would indicate some type of contact with a drug, none was found in the house.   He’s hopeful the lab results can provide more information.

Because of the circumstances, police did contact the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Marion County State’s Attorney’s office to make them aware of the situation.
