The Downtown Summer Concert Series opens for the fifth year this Saturday in downtown Centralia by Crooked Creek Winery. The event will run every Saturday through August 9, featuring a variety of artists, contests, and competitions, as well as plenty of food and drink. Crooked Creek owner Shannon Cooney says the event draws plenty of visitors to Centralia each year.

“What’s been really great about the downtown summer concert series is that it brings people from out of town to shop and spend money in local restaurants, bars, shops, in summertime when commerce is particularly a little bit challenging for everybody.  It’s done a nice job of bringing people from a little bit further away to downtown Centralia to see the progress we are trying to make here.”

While in past years the concert series has been held on Sunday afternoons, this year has moved to Saturday evenings, which Cooney hopes will improve conditions for attendees during the summer event.

“One of the biggest pieces of feedback we always got was that it was pretty hot in the summertime in the street on a Sunday afternoon.  The new Bistro lighting went up last year, and we thought it would be a good opportunity to make a change to try and take advantage of a little bit cooler temperatures later in the day so we moved the time back to six to nine and moved it to Saturday nights so people have the day off the next day.”

Cooney said this year’s lineup contains bands that are new to the concert series, such as the Jorrells and Backseat Radio, as well as returning favorites Cat Daddy’o and Taco Truck. Featured events taking place alongside as part of the concert series are a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a homebrew competition, and a singing competition. The series partners with local nonprofits including the Centralia Sunshine Project and C-Town Skate Crew, who will have their own activities alongside the event.
