The City of Salem has issued more than $6-million in building permits during the first half of the year.
The new 618 Plastics Commercial building on Selmaville Road accounts for more than half the amount. The permit for construction of the building for the newly formed plastics business is $3.6-million.
Building/Zoning Coordinator Jacob Washburn says there were also several commercial additions totaling $2,046,900. They include the $1-million addition to the Evergreen Christian Church that contains a gym and other additional rooms at the church. Radiac Abrasives has been issued a permit for an $819,000 expansion. Company officials have not yet released details on the proposed expansion. There were permits issued for commercial accessories totaling $123,000.
On the residential side, one permit for $45,000 was issued to locate a double-wide mobile home. There was one residential addition totaling $5,500 and residential accessory permits totaling $131,750. Permits have also been issued for the installation of nine pools, totaling $9,406.
