The Salem 14u Wildcats won the Millstadt Explosion Sluggers Wood Bat Tournament. After opening up the tournament Saturday with an 8-8 tie against the O’Fallon A’s, Salem beat Jasper County 3-1. Then on Sunday they opened with a 2-1 win over the Falcons to get a rematch with O’Fallon in the championship. Salem would come away with the 7-2 victory.
Salem would open the game with 5 runs on just one hit in the fifth inning scoring on an error and then RBI from Zane Applegate and Jax Schaubert. Colton Tockstein was the winning pitcher giving up 3 hits and no runs over 4 innings. He struck out 3 and walked one. Applegate tossed 1.1 innings of no run ball in relief. Owen Tennyson and Schaubert each had a hit in the title game with Owen driving in 2 runs. The Wildcats 14u summer season ends with a record of 12-12-and-3.
