A revitalized committee successfully expanded the Irvington Homecoming to two days this year capped by a Saturday night fireworks display over the Irvington Park.

Committee Chair Steven Durbin says the crowd, especially on Saturday night, was beyond expectations.

“Hope to see this continue in years to come, and watch it grow. I mean that was this year’s theme for the planning committee was were starting new, but were going to grow, we want to grow and make this a big event. We want to make the community engagement and involvement even more spectacular every year.”

Durbin appreciative off all the vendors, the City of Wamac for bringing Little Toot and their bounce house as well as providing help from the police department, Washington County Emergency Services and Centralia Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, Irvington Fire Department as well as Air Evac who landed two medical helicopters at the park Saturday afternoon.

“This has absolutely been a team effort, and as the old saying goes, it takes a village. This village came together and absolutely exceeded all expectations. This has just been a wonderful event.”

While threatening weather kept the crowd down Friday, Durbin says they still had enough to keep the event going.
