Phillip Sherwin, age 75 of Kell, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Nature Trail Health and Rehabilitation in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, surrounded by his family.

Phillip was born on February 19, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Paul and Jeannette (McGowan) Sherwin.  He married Joyce (McDonald) Sherwin on December 4, 1970, in Yuma, Arizona and together they shared 54 years united in marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sherwin of Kell; mother, Jeannette Sherwin of Kell; children, Georgianna Bruso and husband Gary of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Paul Sherwin and wife Kathy of Texico, Dean Sherwin and wife Marci of Texico, Kim Johnston and fiancé Steven Welker of Festus, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Janna Wharton, Gavin Middaugh, Tabitha Sherwin, Sydney Sherwin, Alexia Sherwin, Walker Sherwin, Isaiah Sherwin, Carter Johnston, Adalyn Johnston; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Cathlene Lewinski.

Phillip was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of the Salem American Legion.  He served as the Mayor of Kell and on the Village Board for a total of nearly 20 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, car shows, and was the past President of Midwest Street Machines.

Funeral Services for Phillip Sherwin will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Jonathan Schnautz officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the service.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Military Rites by the Salem American Legion.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or the Panther Fork Baptist Church and can be received at the funeral home.  Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
