A 68-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been found guilty by a Jefferson County Jury for the First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Patrick Williamson.
Eddie Bennett will be sentenced on August 28th. He faces a prison term of 20 to 60 years, with 100 percent of the time having to be served.
Bennett was one of three people arrested in connection with Williamson’s death on March 24th. He was found deceased in a home in the 600 block of South 15th in Mt. Vernon in what appeared to have been a robbery set up. Mt. Vernon Chief of Police Robert Brands issued a statement expressing his sincere thanks to the dedicated officers and investigators who committed many hours to this case, ensuring a thorough and conclusive investigation. He recognized Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and Assistant State’s Attorney Blake Jennings for their unwavering commitment to this case which resulted in a successful prosecution.
Two others charged in connection with the murder are still awaiting trial. They are 60-year-old Laura Lee Beneway of Bonnie and 66-year-old Peter Harris of Mt. Vernon. Both testified at Bennett’s trial.
