A 67-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with seven counts of child pornography.

James Nail of the 700 block of South Cherry was ordered held without bond by Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow until his first appearance with court appointed counsel and a preliminary hearing on July 11th.

Two of the child pornography charges are Class X felonies, while the other five are Class Two felonies. All seven of the charges involve digital depiction of girls under the age of 13.

Nail was taken into custody on Tuesday when the Illinois Attorney General’s Cyber Task Force with assistance from Centralia Police executed a search warrant on Nail’s home. At this point, Centralia Police say over 18,000 files of child pornography were located. They also report new information has already been discovered since the arrest and additional charges are pending. State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says so far only seven files have been presented to him, which resulted in the seven charges filed.

In her ruling holding Nail without bond, Judge Ade-Harlow says the defendant is specifically a danger to all female minors, but specifically 7 to 10 year old females, and there are no conditions that could be imposed to keep all female children safe from the defendant or that pretrial services could monitor itself 24/7 without the use of third parties.

In its news release, the Centralia Police Department commends the Illinois Attorney General’s Office Police along with the Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office for their continued commitment to pursuing the cases in the Centralia community.
