A 63-year-old Iuka man who was formerly Marion County Coroner has been charged in Marion County Court with seven counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Troy Cannon was ordered held in the Marion County Jail without bond by Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow following his first appearance in court on Wednesday afternoon. The charges all claim that Cannon, while holding a position of trust, authority, or supervision, committed an act of sexual conduct with two separate girls under the age of 18. The incidents are all said to have occurred between January 2025 and March 18th of this year.
State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says all of the counts involve rubbing and no penetration of any type. He says the sheriff’s office began the investigation on March 18th when two relatives of the girls went to the sheriff’s department to report the sexual allegations. The two girls both underwent interviews by the Amy Center as part of the investigation. Hudspeth says Cannon was also called in for an interview before a decision was made to file charges.
Judge Mark Stedelin issued a warrant for Cannon’s arrest on Tuesday night, and Cannon was taken into custody at his home around noon Wednesday by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies.
In denying bond, Judge Ade-Harlow said there was no way to enforce or monitor any conditions the court may set without relying on third parties.
Attorney Brian Warnsman was appointed to represent Cannon, who is due back in court on July 2nd at eleven am for a preliminary hearing.
