A search that lasted about an hour Friday night turned up an elderly Centralia woman believed to be missing from her home. The woman was eventually found sitting in a car in the garage of her home by police. Centralia Police and Fire, the Centralia Fire Protection District, and Lifestar Ambulance all joined in the search around her home in Country Club Road after her husband had reported her missing. It was not immediately clear if the woman had always been in her car or had returned home during the search. The search began around nine pm.
Centralia Police arrested 37-year-old Jason Sheffeld, who told police he was homeless, for alleged aggravated battery with strangulation. He was taken to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on charges and a court appearance.
