The Sandoval Village Board plans to crack down on juveniles who are making people afraid to be at the village park.
The group is reportedly firing Orbies with frozen pellets sometimes containing bleach around those at the ballgames. The frozen pellets are much more painful, and the bleach has caused stains on clothing and vehicles.
Sandoval Police Chief Joe Lyons says as police locate the guns they are being seized and those involved placed on a dusk curfew. The board also complained about vandalism and ringing doorbells late at night and running.
The board will look at what else they want to do at an upcoming Judicial Committee meeting before it is considered by the full board in July. Mayor Mike Gelsinger says tops on the table will be moving the current curfew for all youth from the current 11 pm weekdays and midnight on weekends back to nine to ten at night. The board also wants to look at the idea of public service work for offenders where parents may also have to attend to try and get them involved in the problem. Kinmundy is already doing that to address their problem with young juveniles. The State’s Attorney’s office has indicated they would look at criminal charges against parents who don’t attend the public service work with their children.
Gelsinger says whatever Sandoval decides to do will likely be followed by Junction City since the juveniles involved are walking between the two towns and also creating issues in Junction City.
