The Evergreen Christian Church in Salem is undergoing half a million dollars’ worth of expansion on a new 12,000 square foot multipurpose facility.
The new facility will include a 5,000 square foot gymnasium, a brand new kitchen, foyer, storage space, classrooms, and a covered porch. The pastor of Evergreen Christian Church, Shannon Bopp, explains the new opportunities the youth will have with the new building.
“Really, one of the reasons were building it is that we don’t have a lot of youth space in our current building. So this is going to be a spot where they will have a lot more room for game time and bible lessons, so we are pretty excited about that.”
Roughly 100 volunteers from 11 different states who work with the “World Mission Builders” program are on site, assisting in the construction. A team of about 30 mission kids traveled from Sturgis, Kentucky, to assist in the construction as well.
The team arrived with all the walls and roof pieces pre-built, meaning all that needs to be done is assembly. The team projects that they will have the entire 12,000 square foot concrete pad enclosed within two weeks.
The half a million dollars used for funding came from fundraising events beginning from the Easter of 2024.
