A 16-year-old Salem female juvenile was allegedly stabbed nine times by a 16-year-old Salem juvenile boy during an altercation inside one of the homes at Salem Mobile Home Park early Monday night.
State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says the boy was formally charged in Marion County Court on Tuesday with Class X charges of attempted murder and armed violence, two counts of aggravated battery, and a single count of aggravated domestic battery. Judge Ericka Sanders ordered the suspect to be held in a juvenile facility until further court action.
Salem Deputy Police Chief Tyler Rose says the female was able to call 911 for help at 6:44 Monday night. A nearby Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived in about 30 seconds and located the juvenile male still in the mobile home park and took him into custody. The first arriving Salem Police Officer went to the mobile home and found the girl bleeding profusely. They used a tourniquet to try and stop the worse bleeding.
The girl was later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment. Hudspeth says she was released to come home late Monday night.
Rose says a small three-inch blade straight knife has been recovered and appears to have been used to stab the girl multiple times in the abdomen and back area.
Rose says the two had been in a recent dating relationship.
Due to Salem Police staff shortages and the department’s only detective being on vacation, the city asked Marion County to handle the investigation, which they have agreed to do.
