The Marion County Board will once again be asked to consider creation of a County Administrator position.

Board Chair Steve Whritenour notes continued missteps that cost the county money are behind his decision to bring the issue back following an earlier defeat.

“We need somebody that’s here on a full time basis. That is honoring the wishes of the county board, working with the office holders, and basically brings everything together. That’s something that I hope that the county board will start to entertain as we go into the budget season for 2026. I know that we are going to have to make some cuts and we are talking about adding a position. But I think the dollars that this individual will be able to save the county will be able to pay for itself ten times over again.”

Whritenour says since the county board is part-time there is no one to carryout projects they approve. He also notes the replacement of the HVAC system at the courthouse three times before they got it right. The issue is on the agenda of a special meeting to be held in the small third floor of the Marion County Courthouse at five Monday evening.

The board will also discuss the solar and wind ordinance that would allow the county to charge fees to those developing new facilities. The Marion County ESDA Coordinator’s position and the status of Animal Control are also on the agenda. The bill will also be asked to use contingency funds for animal control salaries since the budgeted amount for the year has already been exhausted.
