Music, dance performances, vendors, and free food drew a big crowd to the Juneteenth Celebration in Centralia over the weekend.

Committee member Julius Flagg was pleased with the turnout at Laura Leak Park.

“It’s a celebration for all people,” Flagg said. “We want everyone to come out and enjoy themselves. I am very pleased with the crowd. God has been in the midst. We prayed for no rain, and He gave us beautiful weather. Believe it or not, this thing has continued to grow. We’ve got people here from as far as Minnesota who came here last year and wanted to be with us again this year.”

Flagg says it has become a homecoming for some.  The event expanded to a second day this year, with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Centralia Community Youth Center on Friday.

A separate program is being held this year to present community awards.
