Fire destroyed an abandoned mobile home in Walnut Hill early Sunday morning.
The fire, first noticed by a passerby, had fully engulfed the home before Centralia Fire Protection crews arrived on the scene. The fire at 401 Main Street could be seen glowing for several miles. The ownership of the home has not been determined.
Centralia Fire Protection District crews were joined at the scene by Centralia City, Kell, and Odin. Salem and Irvington covered the Centralia Fire Protection District station in case of another fire. A Life Star ambulance stood by in case of injury, and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were also on scene.
Firefighters received the call around three Sunday morning and were on scene for nearly three hours. The Centralia Fire Protection District was able to use its new ladder truck, 9854, for the first time since it was acquired from the Carlyle Fire Protection District.
