The Salem varsity Wildcats baseball team opened up their summer league with a home double header against Mt Vernon. Salem swept the Rams.
The Cats opened with an 8-1 win behind 5 solid innings on the mound by Brody Collier. The senior-to-be allowed 4 hits and no earned runs in his 5 innings of work. He struck out 7. Aaden Rostance worked the final 2 innings. At the plate, Collier went 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI. Luke Boldt added 3 hits and 3 runs scored while driving in another. Carter Lowe singled home a run and scored. Brendan Smith and Kyler King added doubles.
Salem won the 2nd game 6-5 coming back from a 3-0 deficit after the opening inning. Lowe worked the first 3 innings allowing 1 hit and 5 runs, but none were earned as the defense made 5 errors. Salem would come back down 5-3 in the final inning and would score 3 runs to walk it off. Boldt and Lowe drove in Salem runs with Collier and Scout Puricelli scoring 2 times each.
The Cats will be back in action on Monday night in Centralia for one game starting at 7:30.
