The Salem Historical Downtown Farmers Market and Music on the Porch is returning for its fifth year this Saturday.
The event will be held from nine to noon every Saturday through at least the month of July in the parking lot of the Benjamin Edwards building at 217 West Main Street.
Becky Carpenter Timmerman explained the market’s origin.
“During COVID, we had COVID hanging around, bothering all of us,” Timmerman said. “I wanted to make sure we had some kind of a network to get food, canned goods, eggs, and things like that. So, we came up with the idea to create a farmer’s market. This is year number 5. It looks like we’ll have about 20 vendors out here Saturday morning, and there’s a pretty good group in the pipeline that’s going to come off and on throughout the summer.”
Timmerman is turning over weekly management of the market to Michelle Barbee, who has assisted in the past, and Quandt’s Produce that has been a yearly figure at the market.
