109th District Republican State Representative Charlie Meier of Okawville has announced he will seek re-election next year to “continue standing up for the hardworking families, farmers, and small business owners of southern Illinois.” The district includes Washington and most of Clinton Counties.
Meier says he’s running for re-election because “our way of life is under attack,” and promises he won’t back down.
“From higher taxes to threats to our freedoms, the radical policies coming out of Chicago are making life harder and more expensive for the rest of us.”
Meier says he has long been a vocal advocate for southern Illinois and a tireless fighter standing up to the Chicago politicians and the swamp in Springfield. As a lifelong farmer, Meier says he brings the same long-term commitment to public service that he does to the land his family has farmed for generations.
“I’ve spent my life working the land and fighting for our values. When the state tried to shut down the Murray Center and displace individuals with severe developmental disabilities, I fought back, and we saved their home. When overregulation threatened small businesses and home bakers, I passed the ‘Cupcake Bill’ to protect the right to earn a living,” Meier said.
Charlie Meier says he is proud to be a lifeline for families across Illinois caring for loved ones with developmental disabilities. From Peoria to Effingham to Centralia and beyond, when parents feel overwhelmed, when services fall short, and when hope runs thin, Meier is proud they call him because he delivers. Meier says he’s more than a voice in Springfield, he’ll do anything to help those who are too often ignored.
During his time in office, Meier says he has been a fierce defender of the 2nd Amendment supporting concealed carry legislation. Meier says he fought against tax hikes and stood strong for parental rights. He voted for the first ever school choice program in the state of Illinois. He says his legislative record reflects a deep commitment to conservative, pro-family values.
Meier is proud to be a strong supporter of President Donald Trump, circulating the most petitions for Trump statewide to get him on the ballot.
“We need America First policies in Illinois. I’m tired of JB Pritzker and his nuts supporters who are trying to make Illinois like California. I’m running because we must defend downstate Illinois. They know they can’t control me, so they’re trying to get rid of me,” said Meier. “But I won’t back down, and I won’t stop fighting for the people. Farmers don’t just think about the next season, we think about the next generation. If we don’t fight now, our kids will inherit a state with fewer freedoms, higher costs, and no future. I refuse to let that happen.”
