Salem Police say a man fled an attempted traffic stop when riding a bicycle late Saturday night and still remains at large.
Deputy Chief Tyler Rose reports the bicyclist took off when an officer approached at Bob White and Franklin Street. The chase continued through the Salem Grade School property into the wooded area north of the school.
While police were never able to catch up with the bike, they believe the bicyclist dropped a backpack that was recovered. Rose says a search warrant is being sought to open a box in the backpack that might provide more information on the suspect.
Salem K9 was used in a search of the area. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies also provided assistance.
