Centralia’s softball season came to an end falling to Chatham Glenwood in the Millikin 3a Super Sectional 2-1. Chatham scored a pair of unearned runs. They were the only runs Centralia surrendered all post season. It’s Glenwood’s first trip to state since 2014 when they won the 3a title. They are 35-1 on the season.
The Annies season ends at 26-4 as they had runners in scoring position in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. The only run for the Annies came on a Kinsley Hawthorne solo homer. Piper Chapman doubled to left before Josie Venturini and Emerie Quick drew walks to load the bases with 2 outs. The tying run appeared to score as Kaylee Bowdler hit a soft pop up to the 2nd baseman Hope Gilmore. Gilmore and Quick collided between the base paths and Chapman touched home plate, but the first base umpire called Quick out for interference and the threat was over.
In the 7th the Annies had one last shot as Ziya Hawk and Hawthorne reached base with one out but Irie Lohrenz got 2 straight strikeouts to end the game.
Chatham will take on Prairie Ridge in the second semifinal at 12;30 Friday at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. The other semi is Providence Catholic taking on Burbank St Laurence.
