Jefferson Fire officials say it took nine hours to complete cleanup of an overturned semi on southbound I-57 near the 89 mile marker south of Mt. Vernon.

The truck was pulling onto the shoulder after blowing a tire.  The shoulder reportedly sunk into the mud, flipping the truck onto the passenger side.  Once it landed, the shift in household projects being hauled caused the top of the trailer to fail and the items to spill.

The truck driver was not injured.

The crash occurred shortly after noon, with the cleanup not completed until nine Sunday night.   At least one lane of the Interstate was kept open during most of the cleanup.
