The Centralia City Council Monday night will consider an ordinance amendment that would install a tougher policy for those parking illegally in a temporary no parking area. In the past, the vehicles were just left in the middle of festivities. The change will allow for a process to notify the vehicle owners in advance of the closure and allow for the towing of vehicles if they continue to remain in the temporarily closed area after the 72-hour notice period.
The council will consider requests for three special events held on city property. The Centralia American Legion Post 446 has requested use of Fairview Park for the Annual Fourth of July Celebration from July 1st through July 4th. The Crooked Creek Winery is requesting Broadway be blocked from Oak to Locust for events on various dates from July 5th through August 9th. Sabrina McClain with Malaysia’s World Organization is asking to use Laura Leake Park and temporarily close various city streets for a 618 Day. The event from one to seven p.m. includes food, games, music and children’s activities.
The City Council meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
