Brief heavy rains Friday night resulted in the flooding of South Hotze Road south of US 50 and before the railroad crossing.

Salem Police say two occupants were in the vehicle when they drove into the deep water and became stranded.   The driver and passenger were both assisted out of the vehicle by Salem Police.  They escaped injury.

By the time the tow truck arrived to remove the vehicle, the water level had already dropped, but not before likely totaling the vehicle involved.

The incident occurred around 8:30 Friday night.

The Salem Water Plant recorded 64/100ths of an inch of rain for the 24 hours ending at seven Saturday morning.  There was even more rain in Centralia, 1.79 inches.   One gate of Raccoon Lake was opened 1.5 feet to get rid of excess water on Saturday.
