The Marion County Fairgrounds comes alive on Friday and Saturday with a variety of activities.

Fair Board President Doug Telford says a vendor fair is planned both inside and outside the exhibit building is scheduled for four to eight Friday evening and nine to five Saturday.   On Saturday, there will be free bouncy houses for the kids.  There will also be food vendors on site.

Telford says the Clinton County BBQ Society Sanction Competition is also scheduled for Saturday.

“The arm bands for the BBQ cookoff are $15 a piece.  They will go on sale around 10 or 10:30 Saturday morning, with sampling starting around 12:00.  The competitors will be cooking three meats: chicken wings, ribs, and pulled pork.  So with the armband purchase, you can sample all three meats.  They have a People’s Choice Award and you vote on the one you like the best.”

There will also be cash awards for the overall grand champion and reserve champion, and first, second, and third-place awards for each type of meat.  Members of the society also earn points for their participation, with an overall grand champion for the year awarded this fall.   This is the second year for the BBQ cook-off, but this is the first time it is a sanctioned event.

While this event is going on Saturday, there will be a Jackpot Cattle Show in the show barn that will have entries from around the state.
