Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says they were able to rescue a Salem man who was hanging by his feet and ankles from a rope 15 feet in the air Tuesday afternoon.

Glenn Perry found himself in the predicament when an attempt was made to bring him down from a tree he was cutting down behind a home in the 1000 block of West Whitaker Street after a man lift he was on quit working.

Fulton says others on the ground had gotten the rope to Perry, but on the way down, it apparently got wrapped around his feet and ankles and left him dangling in the air from the tree.

When firemen arrived, they placed several ladders together in a grouping and were able to place some protective materials around Perry’s ankles before cutting the rope and lowering him to the ground.

Once on the ground, Perry refused hospital treatment.

The incident was reported around four on Tuesday afternoon.
