A 41-year-old Salem man has been arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies following a slow speed pursuit for possession of under five grams of methamphetamine.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says Jerad Huggins of Selmaville Road was taken into custody after he drove his pickup into his driveway and came to a stop.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies had began the chase on Route 37 near Baseline Road. The pursuit came up Route 37 to the south side of Salem and then headed west on rural roads until it reached the Selmaville Road. Unlike most pursuits, this one mainly stayed under the speed limit and towards the end Huggins was traveling at only ten miles per hour.
Huggins was involved in a pursuit with Mt. Vernon Police earlier in the day that had been terminated. Marion County Sheriff Deputies and Salem Police joined Jefferson County deputies as the chase entered Marion County. The methamphetamine was allegedly found in the pickup truck after Huggins was taken into custody. He was taken back to the Jefferson County Jail at Mt. Vernon to be held pending a court appearance on the meth charge,
possession of drug paraphernalia, and traffic offenses. Bullard says Huggins allegedly admitted using meth 45 minutes before the chase began around seven Monday night.
