A 36-year-old Centralia man who allegedly entered an apartment in Centralia without permission on Sunday was formally charged in Marion County Court Monday with criminal trespass to a residence with person present. Matthew Claxton of Haussler Street was also charged with a second separate office of failure to register as a sex offender.

Centralia Police say Claxton entered an apartment at 600 Hickory Ridge knowing or should have known a person was present. He is eligible for an extended term due to a past Marion County felony case.

The failure to register as a sex offender charge states he knowingly failed to register with the Centralia Police Department between May 21st to May 27th with a prior conviction for violation of the registration law. Claxton had a public defender appointed to represent him in both cases. He’s due back in court on June 24th for a preliminary hearing.
