Annies Open Triad Softball Sectional Today at 3pm Against Olney
The Centralia Annies will be in Sectional softball play today at Triad when they take on Olney who won the Salem Regional. Game time is at 3pm and will be followed by Waterloo and Marion.
In 4a sectional semifinals today, Edwardsville and Belleville East will play at Mascoutah at 4:30 as part of the Normal West Sectional. The other semifinal will see Minooka take on Bradley Bourbonnais.
Casey Westfield’s Pitching Dominates Again With 3rd Straight Shutout, Waltonville’s Season Ends
In 1a Super Sectionals at SIU Carbondale, Casey-Westfield put their dominant pitchers on display in the team’s third consecutive shutout on Monday. They came out on top against Waltonville by a score of 4-0 as Casey improves to 34-3 on the season. Casey will take on Carrollton Friday morning at 10am in the State Semifinal at the Louisville Slugger Complex in Peoria. Carrollton has won 6 straight games and Casey-Westfield is riding a 15-game streak. The other 1a semifinal will feature LeRoy and Dakota.
Carterville Headed To State For 2nd Straight Year Behind Phillips No-Hitter
All-State pitcher Caidence Phillips was never better than on Monday, hurling a complete-game no-hitter and striking out 14 to lead the Carterville Lions to an 8-0 victory over Newton in the Class 2A Carbondale Super-Sectional held at SIU’s Charlotte West Stadium. Now 28-4 overall, the Lions will make a second-straight trip to the state tournament in Peoria this weekend. Carterville’s semifinal round game is set for 3 p.m. Friday against Poplar Grove North Boone (25-6), who defeated IC Catholic of Elmhurst, 7-6, in its super-sectional game Monday. The other semifinal will see Beecher and Auburn.
