A 48-year-old Godfrey man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop on Sunday in Centralia.
Christopher Smith was charged in Marion County Court with armed violence, unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful use of weapons.
Centralia Police say they conducted a traffic stop on Smith at Gragg and Elm Streets. Initially, they reported seeing open alcohol and a small baggie of cannabis in plain view. Further investigation turned up a pair of brass knuckles, multiple baggies of cannabis, including two large ones, with a total weight of 376 grams. A scale and $1,640 in cash were also located.
Early Monday morning, Smith’s former girlfriend came to the Centralia Police Department to report that Smith had gone to several residences trying to locate her. During the traffic stop, police learned she was at the police department filing the stalking complaint.
Prosecutors asked that Smith be held without bond, but the judge agreed to allow pre-trial release conditions. A public defender was appointed, and a preliminary hearing was set for July 1st.
