Salem Police say they have now arrested eight people for swarming a car and starting a fight in Bryan Memorial Park and six for an earlier incident where a juvenile was beaten up along Mills Cart Road.
The latest to be arrested include 18-year-old Brandi Albert of North Miller Street in Salem and a 13-year-old female in both incidents, who are accused of videoing and encouraging both of the fights. Police also report the arrest of a 16-year-old male juvenile on Wednesday for aggravated battery and mob action in connection with the Mills Cart Road fight and a 14-year-old female juvenile for aggravated battery and mob action in connection with the park incident.
In the Mills Cart Road incident on May 11th, a juvenile male received multiple abrasions and cuts when he was jumped and attacked. In the Bryan Memorial Park incident on May 19th, a group first blocked a car on a park road and then swarmed it, eventually attacking two of the occupants of the car who got out of the vehicle.
18-year-old Tyree Wilborn of Charleston Road in Salem was earlier arrested in both cases and is being held without bond pending further court hearings on aggravated battery, mob action, and weapons charges for allegedly making threats while flashing a knife. 20-year-old Derek Murley of East Lyford in Salem was charged with the same offenses in connection with the Bryan Park incident and has been released on pretrial conditions. Three other juveniles were earlier arrested for aggravated battery and mob action in the Bryan Memorial Park case. One additional juvenile was earlier arrested in the Mills Cart Road incident. All the juveniles were released to their parents or guardians.
Salem Police say they used video taken by those arrested to identify all of those involved in the two incidents.
Salem Police say all those involved in the Bryan Memorial Park attack have been issued trespass warnings for the next year by Bryan Memorial Park, the Aquatic Center, and Salem Reservoir. If they are located on the property, they will be arrested for trespassing.
The Salem Police Department notes that the public parks and recreation areas of Salem are family use areas, and actions that threaten the safety of others in these areas will not be tolerated.
