The Salem Lady Wildcats were well represented at the Class 2a IHSA State Track Meet held at EIU in Charleston.
Junior Finley Puricelli advanced to the finals of the state high jump competition by clearing 5’1’’ in the prelims. Fin has been at the state meet the past two years on the track, but this is her first appearance in the high jump.
Junior Hannah Smith has some big shoes to fill as her older brother Caleb is one of the best throwers SCHS has ever produced. Hannah has paved her own way and after qualifying for the state discus competition, she finished with a throw of 113’7’’ for a 15th place finish.
Freshman Carly Veach opened the season breaking the SCHS Indoor hurdle record, and after a fantastic first year for the Lady Cats, her season ended at in the 100m hurdle prelims. Veach would hit the 9th hurdle on fall, but in true Veach fashion, she got up and finished the race and will be a force for the Lady Cats the next 3 years.
