The Cahokia Conference released a statement saying at a joint meeting of the 18 member school principals and AD’s, the conference made a motion and voted to suspend the conference membership of Roxana effective for the 26-27 school year. The vote was 16-1 with 1 voting present.
The ordeal stems from the Conference adding teams and realigning. With Civic Memorial, Jerseyville, Waterloo all set to join the conference, the league wanted Roxana and Wood River to join the Illinois Division for all sports except football. Roxana wanted to play football in the Illinois Division and when they were told no, they decided to pull out of the Cahokia in just football only, but the league took the ultimate step and removed them.
Now the Cahokia announced they will be seeking another school to replace them in the Mississippi Division.
