Salem Police say they have now made four arrests and are looking for five more teens in connection with a recent attack in Bryan Memorial Park and an earlier incident along Roddy Road.

18-year-old Tyree Wilborn of Charleston Road in Salem was ordered held without bond by Judge Mark Stedelin in Marion County Court during his first appearance in court Tuesday in connection with both attacks.   Wilborn had been released on pre-trial conditions following an April 7th incident where he was charged with aggravated battery to a correctional officer, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm ammunition without prerequisite firearm owner’s ID card, obstructing identification and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.  Wilborn allegedly refused to get out of a car following a traffic stop by Salem Police. Later at the jail, he is accused of giving a false name and kicking a correctional officer in the groin.  Wilborn was also charged with having a handgun and ammunition in the car.

In new developments Tuesday night, Salem Police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Derek Murley of East Lyford in Salem for aggravated battery in a public place and mob action in connection with the Bryan Park incident.  He’s being held in the Marion County Jail pending a court appearance on Wednesday.

Police say they have also arrested three juveniles in connection with the park incident and looking for five others believed to be involved in one of the two altercations.   A 13-year-old juvenile and a 15-year-old juvenile were arrested for aggravated battery and mob action and a 14-year-old for criminal trespass and mob action.  They have been released to their guardians.

Wilborn was formally charged in court Tuesday with aggravated battery, mob action, unlawful possession of weapons and aggravated assault in connection with the Bryan Park incident.  He’s accused of striking a man who was a passenger in a car that had been blocked by seven or eight people standing across the park road near the bathrooms.  The victim got out of the car and told the group to leave.  Instead, the victim was allegedly attacked by the group and a fight ensued.  The unlawful possession of weapons and aggravated assault charges against Wilborn are for allegedly possessing a pocket knife and displaying the knife and threatening physical harm to the person they had stopped in the park.  Police say the group of teens were running northwest when they arrived in the park, with Wilborn and one of the juveniles stopped on Bob White Lane.

Wilborn was charged in a separate case with aggravated battery and mob action to a juvenile defendant who was allegedly struck in the head with his hand after being jumped along Roddy Road on May 11th.  Police were looking for Wilborn in connection with that case when the park incident occurred.

Salem Police say the investigation is ongoing as they try to track down other members of the group allegedly responsible for the attacks.
