The theme has been selected for the 98th annual Centralia Halloween Parade.

Parade Chair Butch Mathus traveled to St. Mary’s School in Centralia to make the announcement.

“We’re here to celebrate the sixth grade class of Elizabeth Hanson, who submitted the winning theme for this year’s parade, ‘Frights, Lights, and Delights,’” Mathus said. “We’re honored to conduct a pizza party for Miss Hanson and her classmates who participated in this year’s contest. We had 99 entries from eight area grade schools. It was a tough selection, but this one was the winning theme.”

Hanson explained how she came up with her entry.

“I started thinking, ‘lights,’ and then I started thinking about Halloween and how sometimes it can be scary and there’s scary movies, then I said ‘frights.’ I also was thinking about desserts and stuff, and then I was like ‘delights,’ so that’s how I came up with the name.”

Mathus feels the theme will be a good one for float builders as they design entries.    The Halloween Parade this year is set for the night of Saturday, October 25th.
