Salem Police say they arrested a 32-year-old Salem man twice on Thursday following incidents involving his ex-girlfriend.

Garrett Horton of East Bryan in Salem was initially arrested for aggravated assault and criminal damage to property and was given a notice to appear in court.  About four hours later, Horton was arrested again for criminal damage to property and driving under the influence.   Police say their initial complaint against Horton claimed he was threatening another male with a baseball bat.   He also had allegedly used the bat to damage his ex-girlfriend’s car.

Garrett later reportedly sent an apology to the victim and she began looking for him.  Once located, Garrett is accused of smashing her phone, breaking a car door, and slashing a tire.

The ex-girlfriend was able to drive home on the flat tire.

Police took Horton into custody after locating him at Broughton Road at North Point Drive.

Horton was released on pre-trial conditions following his first appearance in court on Friday.
