This week the Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School Track and Field team competed at the Ellis Invitational at Altamont High School. The meet was interrupted by intermittent rain throughout the evening, with many events and races ran during the rain and in tough conditions.

The Stallions and Lady Stallions showed well, as this would be there last tune up heading into Sectionals. The Lady Stallions will compete this Thursday May 15th at the IHSA Webber Sectional, with the boys Sectional  coming a week later on Thursday May 22nd in Chester.

The Stallions got 1st place wins once again from Landyn Mitchell in the 110M Hurdles as Mitchell would run and impressive (:14.71) and he would also win the Triple Jump with a jump of (42’07”). Mitchell would place 2nd in the 300IM Hurdles as he was edged out at the line by a lean in a photo finish by :0.03 hundredths of a second (:40.74). Mitchell also took 2nd in the Long Jump with a jump of (20’05.75″). He has had one of the most impressive outdoor seasons in Class 1A Track and Field, and heads into next week’s Sectional ranked #1 in the 110M Hurdles and #4 300IM Hurdles. He is also ranked highly in both the Triple and Long Jump as he looks to qualify for the IHSA State Track and Field Meet in 4 events!

Other 2nd place finishers on the evening were Sr. Isaiah Lyons who was 2nd in the 200 meter dash (:24.124) as he would fall to a competitor from a previous heat by 1 thousandth of a second and won his own heat by 1 tenth of a second. Lyons would place 4th in the 400 meter dash in the pouring rain in (:54.29). Soph. Wyatt Gregory was 6th on the day for the Stallions in the 800 meter run (2:14.5), Sr. Zerek Koch 8th in the 1600 meter run (5:09.1) and his teammate Cameron Jones would PR in the race in (6:01.4). That race was also ran in a torrential down pour. In the final race of the evening at almost 9:00pm the Stallion Boys 4X400 team of Zerek Koch, Sergio Fernandez, Wyatt Gregory, and Isaiah Lyons would place 5th (4:07.7) with Lyons giving an all out exertion of heart to pass the Nokomis anchor by 1 hundredth of a second at the end.

On the Lady’s side Sr. Rylee Brammeier would place 2nd in the 3200 meter run in (14:03.3) and 8th in the 1600 meter run in (6:38.1). The rain in both the lady’s 1600 meter and the mens 1600 meter race was not for the faint of heart!

The Stallions and Lady Stallions will now try to put a season’s worth of hard work together as they hope to compete and see several PRs and hopefully some State Qualifier at the upcoming Sectional meets!
