Centralia to consider regulation of low-speed electric and gas bicycles

By Austin Williams May 12, 2025 | 1:19 PM

The City of Centralia Monday night will consider an ordinance amendment to regulate the operation of low speed electric and gas bicycles on city streets.

The ordinance would require an annual registration and inspection process with a $20 fee.  The changes also will not allow the bikes to be operated on sidewalks or under the influence.  Mayor Bryan Kuder is seeking the change due to the number of accidents involving the bikes.

The council will consider a forgivable Loan Agreement from TIF #3 for facade improvements.  Under the proposal, Dimond Brothers Insurance, LLC is planning new awnings and signage as well as other improvements to enhance the building appearance and replace deteriorating material.  The total project will be $30,699, with a maximum TIF grant of $12,000.

Mayor Bryan Kuder is expected to program May 11th through the 17th as National Skilled Nursing Care Week and May 17th as Poppy Day.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
