State Record Falls In Parrett’s State Championship Throw…Cassidy Wins Boys Shot

The SIJHSAA State Track Meets were held on Saturday.

The Class L meet saw Franklin Park’s Emily Parrett not only break her own school record on her way to the state championship, but she blew away the state record with her throw of 39’6’’ breaking the old state record more than a foot.

That helped Salem girls on their way to a 4^th place finish as a team.  Kenna Benjamin was 3^rd in the high jump, Teagan Lobek 2^nd in the pole vault.

The7th grade 4×200 relay team broke their own school record finishing 7^th in a time of 1:57.13.

Waterloo won the team title with 90 points followed by Marion 47.5, Millstadt 46 and then Salem 40.

In the boys competition, Marion dominated with 120.5 points followed by Millstadt 57, Bellevillie West 44 and Waterloo 42.  Salem was 5th with 36 points tied with Murphysboro.

Salem dominated the throwing as Kylan Cassidy won the boys state title with his throw of 52’4.5’’.  In the discus Kylan Cassidy was 3^rd and Owen Tennyson 4^th.  The 4×100 was 3^rd.
