Virgie Tutt Bassett, age 88 of Alma, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Centralia Manor with her granddaughter by her side.
Virgie was born on May 10, 1937, in Stillwater, Kentucky, the fifth child of nine brothers and sisters born to Luther W. Tutt and Mallie (Bailey) Tutt. She married Dayne Ellis Bassett on May 12, 1953, and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2020.
Survivors include her son, Michael Dayne Bassett and wife Cheryl of Godfrey; daughters, Kathy Lynn Smith and husband Steve of Texico and Diana Kay Brooks and husband Bob of Mathis, TX; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Flossie Hayes, Eleanor Tate, and Nora Smith and husband Ronnie; sister-in-law, Lorraine Bassett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Neveda Deadmond and Virginia Gray; and three brothers, Jack Tutt, John Tutt, and Luther Tutt.
Virgie was a member of the Kinmundy Christian Church. She worked as a cook for the Kinmundy Grade School for many years. Virgie and Dayne enjoyed their retirement with lots of horseback riding and camping. They enjoyed being around friends and family.
Graveside services for Virgie Bassett will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Sandy Branch Cemetery in Alma with Josh Conley officiating. A family visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Crouse Funeral Home.
