2025 05/12 – Lane Otis ‘Ottie’ Tate

Lane Otis “Ottie” Tate, 85, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025.

He was born in Centralia on Saturday, January 6th, 1940, to Ivan Tate and Dora (DeSelms) Tate. He married Rosemary Gladys Viola Troutt on Dec. 11, 197,3 and she preceded him in death on December 20, 1991.

Ottie served honorably in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, a testament to his unwavering commitment and love for his country. Following his military service, Ottie pursued a career as a Truck Driver and later ventured into Mobile Home Transport, where his hard work and integrity earned him respect and lasting friendships.

He is survived by his beloved children, Michael Tate and his wife Lisa of Centralia, Aaron Tate and his wife Patti of Iuka and Jennifer Tate of Champaign, whose lives are a testament to the love and guidance he so willingly provided. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry Tate and his wife Judy, and Tom Tate and his wife Louise and Lewis Tate; his sisters, Linda Standley and Betty Tate; his sister-in-law, Barb Tate; grandchildren, Chelsea Morris and husband Mason of Iuka, Seth Tate of Iuka, Jacob Tate and Brock Tate both of Centralia; four great-grandchildren and his longtime companion and special friend, Nancy Kyker of Carlyle.

Ottie was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Dora Tate, and his brothers, Perry Tate, Steve Tate, Lester Tate, and Rodney Tate; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Tate, Mary Tate and Patty McHenry; brother-in-law, Greg Session, mother-in-law, Viola Troutt and father-in-law, Ernest Troutt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Centralia American Legion, a cause near and dear to Ottie’s heart, and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Tate Family. Ottie Tate will be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering dedication to family, and his patriotic service to the nation. His legacy will live on through the love and memories cherished by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
