The Class S Track and Field regional was held at SCHS yesterday. New Horizon won both the boys and girls divisions. The boys scored 101 points nipping Central City with 98 and 3rd was Selmaville with 59. On the girls side following New Horizon’s 96 points was Selmaville with 94 and St Mary’s Centralia finished with 87.
Winning the hurdles was Matt Carter and Gia Ward both of Selmaville. Kayson Waters of St Mary’s won the 400 in a new school record time of 58.02 with teammate Mallory Kent winning the girls race. New Horizon’s Hunter Malekovic won the boys 1600 with Selmaville’s Karmen Murray-Young taking the girls race. Malekovic won the boys 800 and Murray-Young also was a winner. In the 7th grade 100m, Selmaville’s Kasen Harris won the boys event with Alana Howe winning on the girls side. In the varsity 100, winners were Kayson Waters of St Mary and Aliyah Westling of Central City. Mckhy Laurence of Central City won the boys 200 along with Alana Howe of Selmaville.
In the field events in the shot put winners were Reid Hall of St Mary’s and Jorja English of Raccoon. In the discus, John Organ of Raccoon and English won it as well. Laurence also won the high jump with Tillie Castleman of New Horizon. Kade Jackson of Central City and Raylynn Parker of St Mary’s won the long jump with Parker setting a new school record of 14’8.75’’.
Also congratulations to Patoka’s Brantley Brumfield who broke the school record in the discus throwing it 81’3’’. It was a huge improvement for Brantley who came in to the day with a PR of 66’1’’. Also shoutout to Max Goldsboro who was 8th in the 1600 in a time of 6:24.17 PR’ing by 16 seconds!
