Salem Township Hospital has completed its fiscal year on March 31st, reaching its goals.
Hospital President James Timpe reported the news to the hospital board Wednesday afternoon.
“Last fiscal year we did make budget, and we saw great improvement in our quality outcomes and in our recruitment for staffing, as well as our volume. To us it was a very successful year, and we saw a lot more opportunity to serve the community.”
Timpe says the hospital finished the fiscal year with 88.9 of those completing surveys after treatment saying they were likely to recommend the hospital. The hospital received a 93.1 rating on its HCAPs surveys of those on Medicare.
Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Kevin Kooth joined the board meeting to discuss future services the hospital could offer. Timpe explains the possibilities.
“We actually are looking at expanding our orthopedic offerings, as well as other things that we’re doing. We’re expanding our primary care base, because our community is in need of additional primary care resources at this time. Wherever the community needs additional resources, so they don’t have to go to St. Louis or other communities, that’s what we’re looking to add.
Timpe hopes to have a new radiology group to handle the radiology department in place soon. The current group is disbanding their company at the end of August.
Timpe also reported the concrete poured for the new north parking lot used mostly be employees last year is cracking. It will be replaced free of charge.
The hospital has purchased the house at 1511 North College across the street from the hospital. Timpe says for not it will remain a house.
The board was told 850 vouchers for low-cost blood testing were purchased at the one-day voucher sale last week.
