April brings what is believed to be record rainfall

April’s rainfall total is believed to be a record breaker.

The Salem Water Plant recorded 14.92 inches of rain during the month and the Centralia Water Plant 12.80 inches of rain.  While monthly rainfall records are not kept at the Salem Water Plant, the Centralia rain total is the most since records began in 2010.   The Salem April rainfall was well over the 7.36 inches of precipitation for the first three months of the year.

The record probably goes much further back.  St. Louis recorded just 10.84 inches of rain in April breaking a record set in 1893.

So far this year, Salem has recorded 22.28 inches of rain, up from 13.49 inches through April last year.

Temperatures during April ranged from a high of 85 to a low of 30 degrees.
