Salem Cats 10u Softball Team played in the Vandalia tournament this last weekend and going 3-1 with a second place finish.
Saturday Pool play:
Game 1: Salem Cats 10u roll past Dietrich Crush 10u 17-7. Highlights – Julianna Rushing earned the win for Salem allowing 6 hits and 7 runs (4 earned) over three innings, striking out 7 walking one. Shaylee Vest threw one inning of zero run ball in relief, she gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
Game 2: Salem Cats won over Tamaroa Tigers 10u 9-5. Shaylee Vest earned the win for Salem as she gave up one hit and 5 runs (3 earned) over 2 2/3 innings, striking out 5 and walking 4. Avree Winegarner and Kaylee Carroll led the team with two free passes.
Sunday Bracket play:
Game 3: Salem Cats hold off Fayette County Freedom 8-6. Juliann struck out 11 batters, surrendered one hit and one run over 4 innings while walking three. Salem Cats amassed 10 hits in the game with Harper McCarthy and Julianna collecting two hits for Salem.
Championship game: Late comeback from Mt. Zion Lady Braves costs Salem Cats 10u. Salem lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. Julianna struck out 12 batters, allowed 6 hits and three runs over 5 innings and walking one. Salem had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game. Harper McCarthy and Kaylee Carroll led the team with two bases on balls each.
