Ameren Illinois is reporting 1,600 lost power, mostly in the Centralia area when a fast-moving severe thunderstorm crossed Marion County around eight Tuesday morning. At 11:15 Tuesday morning, there were still 900 without power.
The most severe damage was reported in Centralia, where Fire Chief Jeff Day reported six different locations in town where trees had brought down power lines. One line fell into water in the alleyway behind the Sutherland Garnier Funeral Home causing arcing in the water. Another in the 200 block of North Hickory pulled electric service from a home.
An explosion, possibly a transformer, was reported in Junction City but the problem was never pinpointed. A tree was brought down in the Royal Lakes neighborhood south of Odin. No damage or issues were reported in Salem. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported several tree limbs down.
Ameren Illinois reports crews are working to restore power.
