Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Chris Jenne says two workers suspended from a water tower at 19th and Waterworks late Saturday morning were safely rescued.

Emergency crews found the two men between 135 and 150 feet above ground level after an apparent equipment malfunction caused a scaffolding collapse.

Due to the height and complexity of the situation, a high angle technical rescue was initiated, with help requested from the MABAS Division 45/68 Technical Rescue Team.

Workers utilized tag lines to assist in stabilizing the scaffolding, which later allowed the two workers to repair the motor and safely descend to the ground.

Further details about the individuals and the cause of the equipment failure remain under investigation.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Department extends gratitude to all mutual aid partners involved in the response and commends the efforts of the technical rescue teams for their professionalism and expertise.
