The Salem Community High School Green Team had another successful electronic recycling day on Friday despite the rain.
Sponsor Drew Johnson says they finished with 25 full pallets and two 55-gallon drums full of batteries.
“We got a slow start. I could pick any day of the year, and it would rain on the day I pick. We had a pretty steady flow once we got going, and then once the rain tapered off, we had four or five cars backed up. We worked as fast as we could. All of my classes are helping out, so whoever I had each hour had to be instructed on what we were doing and then we tried to get it cleared as quickly as possible.”
Johnson says proceeds made by selling the recyclables to Eagle Recycling in Shattuc is then used to be able to complete other recycling activities at the school. He says the biggest is recycling paper used at the school through the Centralia Recycling Center. Johnson says they make no money off that effort.
