In its first meeting since the April 1 consolidated election, the Centralia High School board of education was reorganized Thursday night. Board members elected Mike Neudecker as the new board president, Keith Kessler as vice president, and Tyson Coffey as secretary. All three were elected unopposed. Coffey and Lance Marcum, who both won seats in the election, took their oaths of office. Mike Sutherland, who was not present at the meeting, will take his oath next month.

The board agreed to keep the regular meeting time on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7:00 P.M.

In the superintendent’s report, Chuck Lane said the solar project is nearing completion, with the only remaining holdup being a back-ordered part that has still not arrived. The floor has been set down in the new pole barn, which is also soon to be completed.

Lane also mentioned that Centralia High School is one of the schools affected by the US Department of Education’s attempt to halt previously approved extended spending timelines for pandemic relief funding. Lane says the school district is able to pay for the projects the funding was supposed to cover, but the district still hopes to receive the extension it was promised.

The board approved an overnight stay request for seven students to attend to Illinois FFA State Convention on June 10-12. The board also approved finalized changes to the student handbook.

Centralia’s May Fete this year is May 8 and 9, and graduation is May 18.
