The Washington County Emergency Management Agency reports two people were transported to the hospital and others had to leave their apartments during a late Wednesday night fire at the Village Apartments on North Hoffman Street in Nashville.
The State Fire Marshals office called in the Illinois State Fire Marshal to try and determine the cause of the fire in the 36-apartment complex designed for seniors age 62 and over. In addition to the two transported to the hospital, eight others were transported via shuttle to a Red Cross staffed shelter in Nashville. The Washington County EMA reports additional residents were safely picked up by family and loved ones.
The extent of damage was not immediately known.
Nashville Firemen were assisted by six other fire departments along with several ambulance services. Fire departments called on mutual aid were Hoyleton, Addieville, Ashley, Okawville, Carlyle and Coulterville. Nashville Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.
The fire broke out around 10:30 Wednesday evening.
